My first song… sort of
Now that I have some training in music theory and working with FL Studio under my belt, I started working on taking one of my songs from lyrics and some notes about the melody into a full fledged song.
I still need more practice coming up with a richer, fuller sound with more complex arrangements. I heard that I could get Suno to take my melody and flesh it out. It took a few tries for me to figure out how that works. In the meantime, I accidentally had it compose and perform a version of the song. The version uses my lyrics, but not my music.

Still sort of cool, right? Maybe? I intend to finish fleshing out the orchestration of my music and record my own vocals. I’m hoping to release it before the end of September. Once the legal concerns around Suno and other AI music engines get more clarity, I might use content it generates in my music, but for now, I’m just using it to generate ideas for arranging/orchestrating my melodies. And, not for nothing, once I figured it out, I did get some good ideas from it. Of course, it way overorchestrated some parts that made it feel way too much like Yanni, John Tesch, and other musicians I and my GenX friends used to hate on.
It’s a weird adventure to be on. I already made my professional name in writing and developer relations. I am able, in part, to take the time to do this now because of the success I had with those. Sharing my work in mediums where I’m new and untested does cause some level of anxiety. “No risk, no reward,” they say.
I know few people are reading this site right now. I’m doing most of this blogging for posterity. Even so, I’m having trouble hitting the publish button. Well…
