Dark Lullaby – A Song From Nightmare Week
This past week has been Nightmare Week in my Bulmash Music on YouTube playlist.
Dark Lullaby is a song I experimented with last year and got an 80s metal take on that wasn’t bad, but since then, Suno has really upped their game, so I decided to try generating a new version from scratch.
It’s inspired by a combination of some old folk lullabies and the fact that Grimm’s fairy tales are far darker and bloodier than the Mother Goose sanitized versions most modern kids grew up with. When the line “go to sleep my little one, and dream about your death,” popped into my head, I knew it was an idea I had to explore. This takes a little bit of inspiration from all the Clive Barker and Neil Gaiman I read when I was younger. But in large part it also ties into an interview I either read or heard where Clive Barker said his way of dealing with his childhood fears was to become scarier than anything waiting in the dark.
